St James’s Church is an evangelical Anglican Church in Ryde, the Isle of Wight.

St James’s Church is an evangelical Anglican church based in Ryde, on the Isle of Wight, the largest island off the coast of England. We are separated from the mainland by the Solent, a narrow strip of sea famous for its yachting. Situated off the south coast, we enjoy some of the best weather in Britain!

Our ministry is based on the clear teaching of God’s Word and the application of biblical principles to daily living. We focus on being open to God through corporate worship, private prayer and daily reliance upon the power of the Holy Spirit.

As an Anglican Church we are part of the Anglican Mission in England (AMiE). With an ordained minister, St. James’s is committed to its protestant and evangelical practices and doctrines. We are committed to supporting other like minded churches inside and outside of the Anglican structures.

At St James's we have...

This happens as sinful men and women hear the gospel, turn to trust in the Lord Jesus and grow to become more like Him.

We long that, in the time before Jesus returns, God will use the life and witness of our church family to bring praise to his name.

We see these as central to all we do and so
unashamedly commit ourselves to:
A Bible ministry, that is faithful to Scripture and applicable to today’s world and
Prayer, that we would depend on Him every day as we seek to
follow Christ.

We aim to tell all that trusting in Jesus’ death means rescue from hell and adoption as God loved children.
We long to grow together as disciples of Christ,
following Jesus’ lead.
We seek to obey Jesus in making disciples and are committed to making Jesus known both locally, and around the world.

Our Beliefs

At St James’s we are a evangelical reformed anglican church. We hold to the doctrinal basis below:

1.

Rooted in the Reformation and in the tradition of Anglican Evangelicalism, the Church accepts as the basis of its worship the doctrines of the Church of England, namely; Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion, the Book of Common Prayer, the Book of Homilies and the Ordinal.  Article 6 of the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion, ‘Of the Sufficiency of the Scriptures’ is taken as the guide by which all other articles are measured.

2.

Accordingly, the Basis of Belief of the Church is in:

2.1.

the one true God who lives eternally in three distinct but equal persons – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit;

2.2.

the holiness, love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world;

2.3.

the divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which in their entirety are the written Word of God, fully trustworthy for faith and conduct;

2.4.

the dignity of all people, made male and female in God’s image to love, be holy and responsible stewards of creation, yet since our rebellion and fall, subject to sin and death;

2.5.

the incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ-born of the virgin Mary, truly divine and truly human, yet without sin;

2.6.

the atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God;

2.7.

the bodily resurrection of Christ, the first fruits of our resurrection; his ascension to the Father, and his reign as the only saviour and mediator of the world;

2.8.

the justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith alone in Christ;

2.9.

the ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness;

2.10.

the Church, the body of Christ both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers given life by the spirit and endowed with the Spirit’s gifts to worship God and make disciples who promote justice and love;

2.11.

the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper given to the church by Christ as expressions of the grace of God declared by external signs; baptism as a symbol of union with Christ and entry into his Church but not as a means of imparting spiritual life; the Lord’s supper as a commemoration of Christ’s sacrifice offered once for all that involves no change in substance of the bread and wine, as all its blessings are received by faith.

2.12.

the personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new heaven and new earth.
